after seeing the cake that I decorated for the retirement party, one of the Cameroonians asked that I do a wedding cake for her brother -- I figured, why not - it will be a good chance to get invited to a Cameroonian wedding right off the bat --
6 hour wedding - whew!!!!! I was scared to death that the cake would start melting and slide apart, but it hung in there!!!!
Here are a few pics -- I was expecting the bride to be in authentic African garb - the family all was, but she was in white which is pretty traditional here in Cameroon (now) - I guess. I was exhausted from the Kribi trip, so we did not stay for the reception - I figured 6 hours of a wedding was enough for my first time!!!! We drove into town from Kribi and the girls were waiting for me in the kitchen with the cakes already baked and cooled. We decorated until about 10 PM. We left for the wedding the next morning around 9 AM.
the first pic is at the sister of the grooms house - we had to keep the layers of the cake separate until we got to the church because the roads are so bad here - it was quite a trick to keep them looking as good as they did - we went over a bump and I bounced right into one of the layers . . . thank goodness I had brought extra frosting with me . . . however, you can still see a little bit of one of the hearts missing that will be forever stained into my dress.
In Africa, children are very important, but are also kept in their place -- there were so many people there that there weren't enough seats - so, the kids had to watch from outside so all of the adults could have a chair. Totally awesome experience - I was one of three white people there, so they wanted us in all of the pictures which I thought was hilarious! I know the groom's sister - but didn't know anyone else in the wedding party.
