What a transition! We went from Interesting in Surfers to Inconceivable on Long Island. We can honestly say this is the most unbelievable, most beautiful place we have ever been or will probably ever stay.

Let's start at when we arrived at the island. Pouring, I mean pouring down rain-the plane the previous day had 6 landing attempts and failed every one due to the weather.  Remarkably, we landed just fine, but were swept away in a boat that reminded us Jeff Probst's boat on Survivor.  The 15 minute boat ride took us right to our resort-Peppers Palm Bay-and we were in awe of the fact that the boat actually went right up onto the sand, a ladder was flipped overboard and we were greeted by 2 woman with umbrellas and drinks in hand for us to enjoy. If you can imagine from this description, we were pretty shocked and I believe I was shaking (possibly from the cold)?

The resort had 12 or so bungalows right on the beach engulfed by a tropical rainforest.  We think we lucked out with the best one! Our 5 days, 4 nights consisted of waking up with the sound of the waves and birds, going to the most amazing continental breakfast we have ever seen, (beats a Holiday Inn), hiking around the island while dodging wallabies, crazy turkey like birds and the best animal of all-what Kadin called them: Sandpipers on Roids (a bit scary but the boogers wore on us) and mostly relaxing by the pool and the beach.  After the initial downpour of the first night, we awakened to find not a cloud in the sky and the beautiful turquoise water at our feet.  Definitely the most relaxing vacation we have ever had-no kids at the resort-no phones-no TVs-just geckoes (story will follow now by Kadin....) And before Kadin begins I would like to point out they were not the common looking cute, green geckoes you see in the Geico commercials. They were grey with big black eyes ready to kill me!!!

So it's our last night, we leave at 9:00 the next morning and we were both awakened by a mixture of wrestling and chirping that we later found out upon turning on the bed side lamp that it was 2 fighting geckoes by our head (mind you, it is now 2:00 in the morning).  The way Reenie reacted to them I like to say they were fighting for the right to bite off her nose in her sleep (or that's what she could have thought at the time).  What I realized after the geckoes split their separate ways on the wall is that Reenie is definitely not going to make it through the rest of the morning if I don't get them outside somehow. I don't know how but somehow needed to be figured out and FAST....

After about a half hour or so of wrestling with furniture and the occasional gecko with Reenie locked in the bathroom and crying, here is what a person might see if they walked by our room post rescue:

The whole bed frame is in the middle of the room, far enough from the wall that they couldn't jump on us if they happened to get inside again, lights on (Reenie was convinced that they would not come out in the light), and Reenie upset and talking to me about how she wouldn't last in Survivor like she always has hoped.

Today we are in Airlie Beach for one night and take off tomorrow morning for an 11 hour bus ride up to Cairns/Port Douglas, which is the place we will use as a home base to explore the Great Barrier Reef.

Hope all is well with everyone and hope you are enjoying the great Northwest weather (Kadin-AKA Dopler Radar-has been checking of course:))

Cheers!

Kadin and Reenie
