Whistler is such a beautiful place that you could almost forgive a hotel for being not quite as wonderful as its surroundings. Here, you don’t have to: the Four Seasons Resort Whistler is a fantastic combination of style and elegance with a relaxed, resort town vibe.
We are city travelers who don’t tend to visit “country” or rural settings very often; this hotel could make us reconsider that habit. The hotel’s 5280 restaurant serves delicious food that reminded us of some of the great food cities we’ve visited around the world (like Buenos Aires and Barcelona). The lobby and public spaces are both beautiful and comfortable. And the staff lives up to the Four Seasons name: from the knowledgeable concierges (all of them) to the excellent restaurant staff and the friendly management (the manager greeted us personally at check-in), this hotel delivers.
We booked a suite package during the week in the summer “shoulder” season. This turned out to be an excellent idea as the room rate was significantly cheaper at this time, and we enjoyed a suite larger than our “city” apartment. Our suite had an entrance hall, a huge living room with mountain views, a comfortable bedroom with windows on two sides and one of those amazing Four Seasons bathrooms. The bedroom would have benefited from shades to block the light in the morning, but we slept well anyway.
In fact, we could have gladly stayed in our room for our entire visit, but then we would have missed the stunning Whistler scenery. The town offers plenty to do (in summer at least) for those non-sports enthusiasts. We took a gondola ride to the top of Whistler Peak, went shopping, ate at two great restaurants and enjoyed a scenic walk through miles of green trees.
We also had good facials in the spa; the spa rooms were comfortable, but not as elegant and well-designed (in terms of layout) as one would expect from a Four Seasons. And while we enjoyed the pool (despite the dozens of children), the pool bar services were a bit limited and the services shut down many hours before sundown – too early for a mid-summer stay when the sun was out until nearly 10pm. But those are pretty minor inconveniences, to be sure.
We had a great time, and would go back to Whistler again, if only to stay at this hotel.
