Went to the Blue Mountains today and walked down to the National Pass past the Wentworth Falls, down and up steep stone steps. Beautiful scenery, and because the weather was overcast and quite cool it was a relief as we all got quite hot during the three hour hike. We walked around, behind and almost through waterfalls which was idyllic - it felt like being in Raiders of the Lost Ark territory! Archie, Stanley and Jake were all very stoic and walked without complaining with only the merest whisper of a bribe (ice creams from the car park kiosk at the end).

From there we went onto Katoomba where we saw the famous Three Sisters rock formations and then went on to visit The Paragon Tearooms in the town. They were established in 1916 and still have the lavish dark wood and mirrored interiors with original features - it was lovely. Even better were the hand made chocolates (we took some away in fabulous original-design packaging).

Happy new year bates clan. Just to let you know we're all still reading your diary - it's so much better than Eastenders. Talking of rubbish telly did you know Kevin Wicks in Eastenders died at Christmas. Erm what other drivel is there...oh yes a boy named Leon won Pop Idol and believe it or not he can't sing! Archers quite exciting as Shula is forced to give evidence against Cathy in a rape case..long story. I try not to but I keep watching Deal or No Deal - I'm getting a bit worried as I'm beginning to find Noel Edmonds quite witty and attractive. Perhaps it's a mid life thing? Yes you're right - you are missing absolutely NOTHING, just rubbish telly/radio and rain. Continue to have fun. love Joanna xxx
