After a very easy flight I arrived in my first destination-Washington DC! I was lucky as my sister Sam was coming out for the first week of the trip to meet me which worked out really well as was nice to start of the trip with some company before heading off on my own! We had about 3 and a half days in Washington and managed to fit lots in but still had some time just to relax as well! We started on the first day by heading to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to see the White House where we got lots of photos, and I mean lots of pictures! It was v cool to see something so familiar for the first time, especially as we both fans of the west wing!! Over the course of the few days we managed to see most of the main sights such as Capitol HIll, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court etc. The American History Museum which had planned on visiting was closed until something silly like 2008 but instead went to the National Archives which had some pretty cool displays as well as getting to see the originals of the Magna Carta, Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
In addition to seeing stuff in the centre of the city we visited both Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown as well which were both lovely places but quite different to each other. It was raining the day we went to Georgetown so didn't see it at its best but still loved the feel of the place lots of really nice cafe's and restaurants as well as nice houses-defintely somewhere that would be cool to live! Alexandria was amazing, really pretty and we were lucky enough to go on a beautiful sunnny day. We followed Sam's guide book and did really nice walk around Alexandria, which I loved as was such a historial place was cool way to soak up some of the atmosphere. Was also really peaceful and really quiet, really didn't seem like it could be so close to the Capital city of the US! Back in Washington itself we also did a really cool night tour of all the monuments which was excellent way to see all of them lit up. The photos i took didn't quite do them justice as the monuments looked amazing at night! Other places we visited in the few days including Arlington National Cemetry and the National Air & Space Museum. where we saw really cool show in the Planetarium which was great way to spend our last day as was pouring with rain! All in all had fab few days in Washington! I loved the city straightaway, as was so full of history and very different to other capital cities i've been to as its dedicated solely to government although unfortunately all the politicians were out of town because of the upcoming elections!
