Its been a few days since I've written. Monday was my 20th birthday. To celebrate I went to a showing of Batman, The Dark Knight. During class on Monday, we began a Rock and roll video series which goes through a time line of how rock and roll has changed. After each video we discussed new music/beats that were introduced, what other elements were introduced, who the leading musicians were, what each musician contributed to rock and roll, how the musicians define their music, the nature of society at the time, and how the music was likely to appeal to society.
Tuesday was a busy day, we had a trip to Warwick Castle and Stratford Upon Avon. We left early in the morning, Warwick Castle was about an hour bus drive from Oxford. The castle offered shows and displays on jousting, trebuchet, birds of prey, sword making etc...While there, I toured the state rooms and dungeon. I also took a walk along the castle walls, boat house, rose garden, and peacock garden. The scenery was gorgeous. The walk along the castle walls took you up a large tower, so there were more spiral staircases, ugh. But I managed just fine, and the view was worth it!
The trip to Stratford Upon Avon was pleasant, it was a quick 20min drive from Warwick Castle. Stratford Upon Avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Overall, it was a fun day and I got to see more of England!
Wednesday was another class day, we watched more of the video series. This was a more laid back day. After lunch, I had errands to do. I needed to get groceries and I looked around Oxford a little more. Today is the halfway point of this experience. I am really enjoying everything, the people I met have become good friends...not only do we study together but we also eat many of our meals at the same table and travel/sightsee together whether in Oxford or around England. I've had so many great experiences, but I still have so much to look forward too. I'll keep you posted in the next few days.
