To get to Walpole from Margaret River, I had to do a detour on the bus via Bunbury. I left MR at 9.00 and got to Walpole about 4.30. Not a bad journey and nice scenery.
Walpole has a population of 500 so it is a small but perfectly formed little town. I checked into Walpole Lodge and was greeted by a friendly couple. I was 1 of 4 people staying there and had the dorm room to myself. There was an old couple (in their 60's) doing the Bibbulmun track (a 1000km trek around south west Australia). They seemed perfectly sane as well!
The following day I went to the Valley of Giants to do the Tree Top Walk. There is no public transport to get there and back, but luckily I was able to get a free lift through the hostel. The tree top walk is a 600m swing bridge (that does swing) that goes around the top of the trees. I think the highest point is 40m. It was lovely sunny day so got some good views. In the afternoon I went for a walk around Walpole. About 10km, so only another 990km to go until I finish the Bibbulmun track!
On Saturday I made myself at home at the lodge until the daily bus arrived at 4.30pm to take me to Denmark.
