After an awesome week surfing, Jon and I were craving the adrenaline junkie stuff so hired a car and drove down to the Waitomo caves to go:

black water rafting

Essentially, wading through underground caves in the dark, seeing thousands of beautiful glow-worms, glowing away, and riding in tubes through the underground rivers.

We weren’t impressed when we had to get back into wet suits as I’d breathed a huge sigh of relief when I’d taken my off for the last time at surf school that day. The day was fun, something different, just glad I don’t suffer from claustrophobia as at one point they told us to turn out our head torches and find our way out… a little scary!

Following that, we drove back through Rotorua to get an action packed ride:

white water rafting

...on grade 5 rapids (5 is quite a high rating for a beginner like me!). That was an awesome day, riding off 7 metre high waterfalls. Was funny as at one point, when the river went calm the guide said we could jump out of the raft for a swim, so we did, then I realised we were coming towards another waterfall and the guy looked at us and said “what are you still doing out there?” so I swam for my life and just made it back into the raft – Jon didn’t though!
