  • Another peaceful sleep and early morning. Once again we got all watered up and when Kev was having a shower, Jules decided to dump the toilet. How funny…(under Kev’s instruction) she was about to empty it in the washing up facilities. Luckily a little Frenchman burst out of his van to instruct otherwise haha!! We set off along our way along the coast. The bluest of blue and still waters we have ever seen. We found ourselves going through Cannes. This was a beautiful and bustling place along the beach and to its left were the hills we just travelled through. Everyone was out and about at the markets, seaside coffee shops and immaculately dressed. You could tell we were approaching the border as all the towns had a huge Italian influence. The countryside was very different to the France we had seen before. Red cliff faces over looking the sea, very dry and hilly. Not to mention the millions of bike riders we had to dodge. By this stage we were sick of the terribly slow driving so we jumped on the highway. We stopped for lunch near Monaco at a servo/lookout. Kev was astounded how the machine predicted exactly how much fuel we would need (to the litre). About 5k’s later we drove into Italy. We were greeted on our drive with what seemed about 200 tunnels, as the countryside is way to hilly to drive over- so through we went!! The landscape doesn’t stop the Italians from using every inch of the soil. We realised after a while they built greenhouses as well as vineyards heading downwards rather then across, unreal!! The day basically was a travel day, we were happy to get away with the tolls being under 30euro. Surprisingly in the Italian’s crazy traffic and rain, we found our camp spot very easily. We were pumped even if we were buggered. We went for a walk and eventually found a great place to pick up our first Italian feast. Not open till 7pm, we walked back, collected our washing and put it on at the laundromat. By this time it was dinner. Oh my goodness…. It did not disappoint. A calzone and pizza- very simple but perfect. Huge tummies, we came back to the camper stop and crashed after a massive day.
