Day 4 (Rome to Venice, Italy): Sunday, 10 December 2006 We took the 8:30AM train to Venice and slept most of the way. Got to see the Italian Alps!! We went through Florence, Bologna, and Padua apparently. Took the canal bus boat thing down the canal to our hostel. We slept at the hostel and then went and found dinner. Venice was almost completely empty! Not a lot of people actually live there and most of the tourists stay on the mainland and so aren't there at night. So that was disappointing. We walked around a bit, crossed a bridge, and walked along a different canal. It was so weird because there were no cars and you always feel like you are on a sketchy alley.
Day 5 (Venice, Italy): Monday, 11 December 2006 After buying our train tickets to the airport, we went over to the Piazza at St. Mark's Square. We discovered that they don't check the tickets on the water bus ever, so that was the end of paying €5 for each trip. We walked around the Piazza, then bought some stuff from vendors (Venetian masks and small oil paintings). We walked to the Rialta bridge and then had some dinner and dessert (tiramisu, yuuuuuuum). We went back to our hostel and watched Harry Potter 4 (we had our own room), haha.
Day 6: (Venice, Italy): Tuesday, 12 December 2006 We went to this island called Morena. They are famous for their glass making, so we went to a factory and saw a demonstration. It was amazing! We bought a few things. We went back to the Piazza and went into St. Mark's Basilica, which was really pretty, but not too much to see. The are was very Byzantine and there was lots of gold. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous over the canals so we took several pictures of the sun setting over the floating city. We then got
more postcards and stuff, and went out to dinner. Then came me trying to pack my stuff with an extra 4 Venetian masks to fit in, haha. Had to throw away a towel and some socks and an old shirt... haha.
Day 7: (Venice, Italy to London, England): Wednesday, 13 December 2006 Took the train to Treviso and flew back into London. We didn't actually get to our London hostel until pretty late. So we went and found the most amazing Fish and Chips place at the near Oxford and Tottenham. Then our friend Jay met up with us and we went to a pub and walked around Soho for a bit. In the morning we got on the tube at around 6AM and finally went back home! (After a 7 hour layover in Houston, yuck).
