“3 islands surrounding Venice, Murano (known for glass), Burano (now known for cheaper glass) and Torcello, not too ... ” |
Emily and I are staying about a 20 minute bus ride just outside Venice. It is not the best or worst of places, but in this case, we have been put in a room that has 8 beds. As the girl shows us the room, I can see in Emily's face that she is worried at first, as am I until the girl says this is the ony room available so we have it to ourselves...seriously, we can live live Goldilocks and test out every bed!
We head into Venice to check out our plan for tomorrow and have an excellent dinner and walk around although in typical Italian style, even most places in Venice are shut up tight by 8 pm.
We have booked a boat tour of the 3 islands surrounding Venice, Murano (known for glass), Burano (now known for cheaper glass) and Torcello, not too sure... We begin our marathon day at 8:30 am and do not reutn until 11 pm, it is quite a long day, but we have a great time exploring and shopping of course. On the first island we watch a glass blowing demonstration and are amazed at how they make a horse and a lamp shade. On the island of Burano we discover the market stalls who blow their own glass and sell it for a fraction of the price they do on Murano. Emily purchases a horse which was 60 Euro on Murano for 4 Euro.
We are droped off at San Marco Square and feed the pegions and wander around Venice which is apparently the best way to see it, bur Emily discovers that she has not purchased enough gifts for her friends and the glass in Venice is expensive so we take the slow boat back to Burano and catch the marketeers as they are packing up. Although it seemed like such a long way getting there, the ride back is excellent and we are treated to a beautiful sunset.
Emily has spaghetti her last night in Italy and we are off to Prague.
