The drive from Rome to Venice, broken by the occasional stop at "Autogrill" - the chain of roadside cafe's part owned by Italy's president - took most of the day.  The most exciting thing to come out of the 28th of February was a "Visco" or Venitian Disco, with dodgy music and dancing to match.

Our main day in Venice began with a drive to the water bus, and a glass blowing demonstration, followed by a obligation free sales pitch that lasted about three times as long as the demonstration.  The sales pitch was done by an English-speaking Italian who reminded me of Steve Vizard's Indian rug seller on Fast Forward...

We went for a gondola ride along the main canal, then did a bit of shopping, and saw part of St Mark's Basillica, which was similar to St. Peter's but not quite so grandiose.  Rather than walking to our "bus with wheels" we decided to take a water taxi that went all the way along the Grande Canal.  It was cold on the water, but great to see the city from a liquid viewpoint. :-)

Venice is definitely another place I would love to come back to spend a bit more time too!
