Now we are off to our next point of interest. On our way, we did have to stop at an immigration checkpoint. We where ask a few questions and then to proceed.
We arrived at Fort Davis National Monument. Amanda made sure the first thing we did was to get the Junior Ranger Program booklet. We toured the grounds and answered the questions in the booklet. It was interesting to see that the current fort layout was built over an older fort. The on going restoration of some of the building is very interesting to see. There is a lot of history at this fort. One thing that strikes you is the fort has no walls; all the fighting was done away from the fort. Amanda was able to complete the booklet and get her patch.
We at lunch after we toured the grounds, now its off to the our next stop – McDonald Observatory. The climb up to the observatory visitor center was not bad. There was ample parking at the visitor center, but found out the parking area to see the first set of telescopes does not have a big enough parking for the RV and trailer. The lady in the visitor center gave us a discount because we could not do the complete tour. So we were able to listened to the talk and tour the visitor center. I was able to go the second telescope, but man that hill was REALLY STEP for the motorhome. The second telescope is a very unique telescope. The pictures will just have to explain it. Now off to our next destination.
The road heading away from the visitor center north was not a good as the road from the south. And when we left, a big thunderstorm was on its way and I went right through it.
Now it was time to find our next night stop. So again we got the Woodalls and TrailerLife books out to find a campground that had WiFi. The Van Horn KOA was in our stopping time allotment and on our path to our next destination. As we were pulling in, I noticed that they had a put-put golf course. After we setup camp Mom, the Kids, and I did a round of mini-golf.
