  <bio>(Nicks story)....

Updated 6/28/07. We have been back from Africa for about a month and I have finally got the dust and dirt out of my ears. It has been strange to reach the US and slip back in to such an easy way of life with food and comfort so readily available. The African part of the trip still hasn't really sunk in yet, it was almost a blur. I am reminded of things when I open up our RealTravel and buy Vanity Fair but it certainly hasn't become a real part of my memory. What I do tell people is how hard it is to travel in Africa. Getting from one place to another when you are not on a tourist package is always an adventure. What I also tell people is how wonderful it was to be part of peoples lives in Africa. I never tire of telling my bushman story and still it brings a tear to my eye the kindness of the young lad. I also think of the clinics in Maputo and the 'Frank Lampard' story. When I get to Florida and take some time I look forward to reliving all the memories and 10 months well lived!!
Updated 4/25/07. Missed out on Madagascar but loved Nairobi and now Egypt. Enjoying relaxing on the Red Sea....this is the life!!

Updated 4/7/07. Just had a true African adventure through Tanzania and Uganda. We were certainly 'tourists' but took advantage of great opportunities to see so much of Africa. Next stop...Madagascar.

UPDATED 1/5/07. I'm ready to leave South Africa after 4 months. It is without doubt one of the most beautiful places to tour, great views, easy travel on roads and good company BUT the constant threat of crime wears you down, not being able to walk outside at night is frustrating and over the course of 4 months it does get to you. We have about ten more days before we head up to Mozambique....I'm looking for a hammock and a beach...and to dive with whale sharks!

1/11/06. I didn't want to sell my green couch....but there's no way that it would fit in to the backpack. I tried everything to get it in but had to admit defeat. Oh well. If I can't lie on my couch, then what better way to spend a year or so than traveling around Africa...on local buses, eating local food and living local cultures....and seeing sharks and mountains and gorillas and lions. Now then, what do I need? Sunscreen...deet....a couple of shirts and a pair or trousers...that should do. I think I'll just use the same stuff that I used in 2001/2003. Now, which way to the airport?

(Ronnies story)
Seven years done! I sold all my possessions- car, furniture, futon... everything and decided to travel around Africa for 18 months. None of the opportunities in Los Angeles were nearly as tempting. Before I left, I watched several African films and ate lots spicy Mexican food... then I was ready.</bio>
