A 2-year Peace Corps stint in the early 1970's sent me to Jamaica, and cemented my love of travel. For 3 years I lived on the island, in a tiny fishing village on the south coast, and later in the much larger town of Montego Bay. Both are beautiful areas I still enjoy. Returning to the US in 1976, I worked at Peace Corps' Washington, DC headquarters, in a job that took me to a number of exotic locales. During those years, I visited Hawaii, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Sri Lanka. Just after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, I had an opportunity to work in Warsaw, Poland, assisting in Peace Corps' first Eastern Europe venture. My husband and 3 children joined me there for an incredible 2 years during an absolutely unparalleled slice of history. We visited East Germany before unification, and got chunks of the Berlin Wall. We vacationed in Belgium, Italy, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. My children are now grown and all of them still enjoy travel. I am an avid reader (through Audible.com) and enjoy genealogy, and now, walking. Walking the 500-mile Camino Santiago across northern Spain was my retirement gift to myself....read more »
