Day 2 started with a rocking hangover!

The Aghadoe House serves breakfast between 8-9 a.m. We had decided the night before that we were going to eat our free breakfast no matter what time we got in at. So sure enough we all got up at 8:45 and went down for breakfast.

Margaret was serving a Full Irish Breakfast, when we entered the kitchen she asked us if we had a good night. She told us that one guest was woken up at 6:00 a.m. by a bunch of Irish guys throwing rocks at his window and asking for the drunk American girls! Margaret and Eugene thought it was pretty funny. The food was really good but I don’t know how any of us got it down or kept it down. After eating we all went back to bed until check out time. None of us was feeling too good. I’m really glad I brought my Excedrin Migraine medicine!

We got up about 11:30 a.m. and packed our things. We loaded the luggage into our car and it was a tight squeeze! We walked a few blocks into Dublin and went into an internet cafe to check our e-mail and map our way up to Trim our next destination. Everyone was still very hung-over and plagued with cotton mouth so we went into a Centra Market to get something to drink and something for lunch later. We found that cold sodas & water are rarely sold in super-markets in Ireland. I guess you need to go to a pub for a cold drink.

As we were walking back to the car we were looking at the pictures we took with my digital camera from the night before. There were alot of really drunken pictures of us and no one really remembered who the guys were in some of our pictures! And there were 11 pictures of just the sidewalk! No one will admit to taking the pictures, not that anyone can really remember that night anyway!

We left Glasnevin about 1:15 and headed for Trim. My directions told us it would take about 45 minutes, which it did. What it didn’t say is that we would have to go through 4 roundabouts to get there! Apparently Ireland and other parts of Europe don’t use intersections and use these damn roundabout things..... to an American tourist it just seems like chaos! It took a pass or two in the 1st roundabout until we were able to get off at the right exit. We did a few “there’s Big Ben, there’s Parliament” jokes from European Vacation as we were going through the roundabouts.

We got into Trim about 2:00 and arrived at Tigh Catháin our next bnb. Check in time is 3:00 there so we decided to kill some time by having a picnic lunch in Marie’s back garden. I saw pictures of the bnb on the net so I knew it was very pretty. But none of us expected how cute the house, the grounds and our room was. I just had to take a few pictures!

We were put into a double en-suite room named “The Blue Room”. It was adorable. Beautifully made beds, little tea cups and a tea pot in the room. Well worth the price. Marie, our host, took our breakfast orders for the next day and brought us some pamphlets about local tourist attractions. Tigh Catháin offers a traditional Irish breakfast & also some other breakfast options.

We unpacked our things and decided to go back to bed for a while. Katie and I woke up about the same time so we took the brochures outside to the picnic table to look through them and decide what we wanted to do. We both thought the Brú na Bóinne Center looked interesting and wasn’t too far of a ride from Trim.

We got hungry so we woke Michelle and Lauren up so we could go into town to get some dinner. We didn’t know of any restaurants so we went to the Visitor’s Center to get some recommendations.

The first thing you can see in Trim is Trim Castle, its right next to the Visitor Center and one of the film locations for the movie “Braveheart”. We decided we wanted to take the Castle tour too.Trim is a very cute little town that keeps its streets clean, all the shop fronts are well kept and painted. All the businesses have flowers out front. It’s a pretty area.

We ate at the “Marigold Chinese/Tai” restaurant. I got some type of Chinese vegetable soup and fries. I discovered that the ketchup in Ireland is not like the ketchup in the States. It tastes different, like home-made or something. Definitely not Heinz!

We drove around Trim for a little after eating dinner just looking at the storefronts and talking about what to do. We spotted an internet cafe that we were going to use the next day to map our way to Newgrange. I took a few pictures of Trim Castle and some cool Gaelic signs before we went back to the bnb for the night.

We decided to do both the Brú na Bóinne center and Trim Castle the next day. We knew we were going to have to get up early to do both and to leave for Kilkenny while it was still light. We watched t.v. for a while and came across and old re-runs of Law and Order S.V.U. We watched a few episodes before finally going to bed for the night. We needed the sleep!
