The post xmas/pre-new year time is always a bit odd so to get us through the week we organised a trainee Christmas Party at an Indian place in the Pong. The partner in charge of trainees insisted on ordering 4 bottles of champagne, beers all round and several bottles of wine and needless to say the next 2 hours involved stuffing our face with curry and drinking a lot of booze.
At about 3pm a few lightweights (e.g. Toby and Karen!) decided to head back to the office whilst the rest of us stumbled about 500m up the road the Roppongi Kossaten in search of Geronimos. Alas, we found the place was actually closed until 5pm so decided to seek alternative refuge. Having never made it to the Pong during daylight hours we did struggle a little, but with a little luck managed to stumble upon a nightclub that was open. Now usually nightclubs are not open at 3pm (not even in the Pong) but this didn’t strike us as unusual so we decided to go in. Due to Spence being on crutches we were swiftly transported in a lift to an underground bar. It was absolutely packed! Even better were the waiters carrying round large trays of food and sushi which we still shoved down our throats despite having eaten about 30 mins previously (well, it was free right?) and headed to the bar. The bar area was an even greater joy…it was covered in a variety of ready poured drinks. You name it, beer, wine, champagne, G&T etc. We literally couldn’t believe our luck.
Until about 10 minutes later when we were “spotted”. We have no idea why we were singled out for special treatment. We suspected perhaps that it was because were the only Westerners in there, but it probably had more to do with the fact that we were downing drinks at the bar and getting as much free lash as possible. About 5 minutes later we had been ejected. It turned out to be an invite only record label launch and we definitely weren’t invited.
Our spirits were still high and we headed to a hotel bar, before being the first to Geronimos when it opened at 5pm. Within seconds of getting in there, Pete managed to bang the drum. He insists I told him to. Then he changed his story and said he didn’t know what banging the drum meant (see earlier blog entry). Fortunately there were only 6 people in the bar at the time (i.e. us ) so the damage was limited to a about £15. Even so, it was a school boy error.
Within minutes of entering the establishment we had decided that Pete should do the shot challenge. Somehow (and I don’t recall exactly how it happened) but I ended up doing the challenge as well. By shot 9 I was bundering in the toilet. I think I threw up about 4 times in the space of 30 mins. I could barely do shots 10-15 and think I threw a couple on the floor. Bundering continued until I felt able to stand up and leave. As I was leaving it dawned on me that the boys were still on their 3rd shot. It was then I realised it was the 3rd shot of their 2nd shot challenge. I have no idea how they did it. Anyway, I decided to leave and go home to the comfort of my own toilet to continue vomiting.
I specifically recall taking Pete with me. But when I got home to the KA, Pete was nowhere to be seen. I looked at my watch and realised that I was a lightweight. It was 8.30pm and all I could think about was sleep.
I remember being woken at 1am by Pete knocking on my door. I recall answering it. I recall calling my mum to wish her a happy birthday. I recall going back to bed. When I woke up at 5am and recall Pete not being there. I phoned round the trainees to find out that Pete had not been back to Geronimos after I left. I panicked and phoned the concierge to tell them “I’d lost my boyfriend”. They said they hadn’t seen him…however Mr Lawrence had bought a “guest” home with him. Ha ha!
Finally found Pete safe and well in Lawro’s room the following morning. Sounds like he traded the night with me to schnuggle up with Lawro instead (who he had met once before). That is another story which you’ll have to ask Pete about…
