I arrived at Hong Kong airport full of anticipation and excitement as the time had come for our Qantas flight
It’s a great airport, big and clean with lots of entertainment to help you while away a few hours
First port of call after checking in is always to eat and we found a fabulous food court with a counter serving duck and pork with rice and soup on the side - actually the second best meal I had in HK but then i'm a sucker for duck
We took advantage of the free wi-fi and used copious amounts of the hand sanitiser they had in dispensers everywhere! I’m assuming they had been out in die to SARS fear - but anyway they were fun
And before we knew it, it was time to board - we were waiting in the economy queue and there was no one at the first class one so the woman waived me and Ben over but told the person behind us to stay where he was - Ben immediately got all excited that we had been bumped up, we got on the plan and were shown our huge seats and he kept saying "we've definitely been bumped up, definitely"
Then the steward came round with blankets, socks, toothbrushes, eye masks, headsets and menus!!!!!!! At this point Ben was convinced and I was starting to think he might be right but we could see the higher classes up ahead and eventually we realised that we were in economy it was just the BEST, roomiest, comfiest cleanest nicest economy ever
I don’t know how I’ll ever go back now after sampling the delight that is a Qantas flight
The food was delicious - smoked salmon people!!!! And not only was my breakfast omelette not like a piece of rubber it was actually once of the best omelette's ive ever had - the stewards were friendly and helpful and Ben was happy as the booze was free and after 2 bottles of the sparkling wine each we were told it had run out so we ordered other drinks, but when they arrived the stewardess had managed to find another wine so she brought us that as well!
But the best thing without a doubt was the entertainment system, each seat had a hard drive under it so you can watch the huge selection of films and TV shows whenever you want, there's also a big music collection and you can make you own play lists!
The only draw back with this was that we couldn’t watch a film or sleep - there was so much choice I didn’t want to commit to anything for longer than 30mins as the flight was only 10 hours and there just wasn’t anytime to sleep - we made a pact that if either of us drifted off the other would wake them up!
However tiredness got the better of us and we lost out on a few hours of viewing time but luckily I woke up in time for the moist towelettes in the morning! Phew!
