while waiting forthe bus from samaipata to sucre i met 2 really nice americans going on the same way like me - omar and michel. together we go on the busthat was to be 13 hours and arrive in day time, but for once the bus was faster and we found ourselfs at 4 am in sucre in a look out for an hostel... we took a taxi to ravelo st. where most of the cheap places are and started knoking on the doors of hostels we heard from other travelers are nice -most of them didn`t answer, those who did where very expensive. so we kept on going down the road till we found a place that answered and was cheap - we took a room and went to sleep. when we woke up we found out it just a place of locals, but i didn`t mind it because they were there with me. we went to the main plaza and took what is called the dino truck - it takes you to a place where there are dinosour footprints on the wall, thoseare soft prints and they just fall of all the time and then you have new prints- it is not that amaizing , i wasn`t even sure it is real, but it is. there we met ori - a very nice isreali girl that i travel with now. after the dino prints we all went to the cemetery-just like in beunos aires, here also they have houses instead of just graves for people, and it is all so green with trees - it is so beautiful!!!! by then we were hangry and wanted to finda nice local resturant, too bad that it was 16:00 - local places are open till 15:00 and after that opens only at 18:30 for dinner.... so we just looked on for an hour, till we had enough and sat in an hamburger place.... while omar and michel went buying a ticket for putosi for tomorrow , ori and i went to close on a nice geep tour in the villeges around and looked for a nice hostel for her. well we found a nice hostel that also has a 3 day trek to the same places where the geep tour goes, we both really wanted to go trekking, so we canceled the geep tour and now had to find a way to burn 2 days till we go on the trek. later that night we all went out to the joy ride cafe - a place just for turists where we drank a lot of beer and had a great time....
waking up the next day i went to help ori move her things to her new hostel, and then we just had a nice breakfast in the market - fruit salad!!! there we met ziv, an israeli guy that we invited to join us on the trek. the rest ofthe day was spent on just walking around the city (all the musems were closed....), having some internet time, and a movie at night in ori`s hostel....
on sunday i woke up and took my things and moved to ziv`s hostel - it was cheaper and full of turists - actually israelis - as allways with israelies you will find the cheapest place.... but it was a really nice place. after organizing my things we went for breakfast and some shopping time in the market, where we met eliran and jacki (that guys from rio and salvador that are traveling with meytal) and dicided to meet them and meytal at 20:00 in joy ride cafe. the rest of the day was again internet (i had lots of stories and e mails to write...) and at 20:00 we went to joy ride - it was nice seeing meytal again and we just talked of what has passed us in the time we havn`t met (the poor girl got hights sicknes and is now on her way back home....). we played some cards and went to sleep early - we are to trek tomorrow....
it is monday morning and we are finally after 3 months of no trekking at all going to trek!!!!! after a nice breakfast we went to take a bus to the bigening of the trek - the bus was actually a truck that all the locals take - we had the true bolivian expirience - it was a truck full of people, on the floor all the cholas (bolivian women) sat and all the kids and men were sitting on the walls of the truck - we did the same.... it was so nice just feeling that we are a part of the real thing here, not doing just the turistic things but really feeling what the locals feel!!! it was great.... on the trek we had a nice guide called lenin and on the first day - which was hard mainly because í didn`t trek for a long time and besides it was uphill in the begining and you all know that is hard for me - i found my self breathless... after having a nice lunch - sandwhich and oranges we went to see caves where there are paintings from a long time ago -done by cave man - but the caves were locked (the guy that takes care of them went for a day in sucre-i found that later on from his dugther...) so on the first one we couldn`t really see them but we did take pictures and than we saw how they looked, and in the second one which was also the way we had to go thru we just climbed over the fance - the paintings are abstract so we couldn`t find any meaning in them- at times it lookedlike a tribe dancing for there god or leader, at times you just couldn`t understand what it is.... but that was still nice - seeing cave man paintings... from there we just had a really long walk to the village where we slept the night -it wasso long that we arrived by night time on the dark - luckly the road is white and the light from the stars and the moon was strong enogh - mainly because there are no city lights around.... when we arrived the school where we were to sleep was closed so the guide found a house for us to sleep in - a small room with 2 beds and some blankets on the floor - again having the true bolivian expirience... for dinner we had soup and a sandwhich (lenin kept calling it an hamburger and that confused us to think we really are going to have hamburgers - we were so disapointed....), so after dinner and game of yaniv we went to sleep on the floor in our sleeping bags.... by the way this days was to be 6 hours - for me it took 8 hours....
we woke up to breakfast - some cereal which was what we call in israel shalva with hot milk hat was used for the cereal and for coffe.... it was nice and we went on our way to maragua - a village in a middle of a huge creator - it was a 3 hours walk - the begining was hard going up hill (well for me every up hill is hard...) and then it became down hill and it was nice. we reached the vilage and had lunch, than went to see a water fall called the devels mouth and fill our water botelles - the water we got in the vilage school - where the kids kept looking at us like we were aliens, and everytime we wanted to take a photo they would run away, as if affried of it.... and then there were some that didn`t run but the wanted money for the photos - we gave them candy instead.... from the vilage it was another 3 hours walk to the house where we slept - the thing is that the walk there is on hard roads full of rocks, the begining of it was going up hill on a really hard way (for me...) and lenin kept on telling me it is 6 hours walk - that made me so angry - it was so poorly organized that we were to get to our camp at night again!!!! and knowing we hadn`t enough food for three days (lenin was spoused to buy for us but all the shops were closed...) i felt that there was no point to it - going on a trek with not enough food, not having our sleeping place organized in advance and every day reaching camp by night (after being told the second day is 4 days and then that being changed to 9 hours...) - that is just not the way to have a trek - espically after i paid so much for it (52 us dolars - which is a lot in bolivia...) i really was as mad as hell and just wanted to kick some body - so i hit ziv`s bag to take it out - it didn`t help much and even when we arrived after 3 hours and not 6, still at day light - i was too mad by this point that it was funny for all the rest.... so in the end a 4 hours day became 6 hours - just because i went uphill so slow so i could breath proparly and not find myself breathless... and after a good dinner - just soup (as i said we had no food...) we went to sleep with a dilema - 6 hours walk to potolo where the trek ends and we have a privte ride back or 3 hours walk to maragua where there is a phone so we might find a ride back to sucre but probably that will take a day or two....
it was 6:30 am and we were woken to make a decision - having the short but not sure way, or taking the long but ure way - the group dicided - taking the long way. after our decision we went to see some dinosour footprints - they were huge and really looked real - they are hard prints in stone - we took some nice pictures (the british guys we traveld with made a funny video....) and started taking thel long way - again the begining was hard going a really steap uphill but at some point we reached flat land and there i started to walk as fast as i can, almost running - i didn`t want to get there at night time again, after all 6 hours is 8 hours for me - so i walked hard and fast as long as there were flat and downhill roads - after 3 hours we reached potolo... again lenin has told me a lie, thinking i will feel happier reaching the place faster then excpected - but i was mad again- it didn`t work the day before, way did he think it will work now i don`t know, but all i wanted was to scream!!!!! at last after 2 days of feeling we have no ffod we found a place where we could buy bread - i ate so much i really felt full. and then at 15:30 (half anhour late) our ride comes with cold beers and real hamburger (not sandwhiches) i couldn`t be mad anymore, i couldn`t tell anyone off for the lousy organizasion of the trek... so i had an hamburger and shut up.... after not too long of a ride (2 and a half ours) we reached sucre -i had my great hot shower!!! we went to have some local dinner - finally tasted pique a lo macho (a bolivian dish of meat and patatos and tomatos and a really good spiecy dressing) and went to sleep happy (with hurting feet and knees....)
and that is how we reach today, it is thursday 8-6-06 and we are still in sucre just having a day to relax, tomorrow we will get on a bus to our next destenation - putosi!!!!
