Well the New Year is upon us.  2007.  The Year of our big trip.  It seems hard to believe that in just a few short months we will actually be hitting the road (and sea and air!) with minimal gear and excessive expectations.

Denise and I decided that our festive season celebrations would be very low key this year - both to save for the trip and to enjoy an intimate 'breather' before juggling the pressures of work and getting the final arrangements for our travels underway.  The result was a much-needed break divided into almost equal parts between the beach, the couch, the kitchen and bed - all in all not a bad way to spend the holidays.

Friends and family generally seized upon the opportunity to present us with useful and portable travel equipment in lieu of the usual round of socks, ties and other less innovative Christmas fare - which was of course much appreciated.  First Aid kits, water purification tablets, travel pillows, and sewing gear have all now found their way into our backpacks - heightening the growing sense that this is all actually happening!

To make things even more real Denise decided we needed a proper count-down.  Some of you will recall our 'Wed'site, and its perpetual digital countdown? Well this one is a little more concrete: We have taken a measuring tape and will slice off a centimeter a day until we hit 0 on the 10th of April.  Starting today that means we have 99 days or roughly 14 weeks/2376 hours/142560 minutes/8553600 seconds until we leave!!!!  The clock is ticking...
