Hey there! It was a super trip...unfortunately its over now :( You need to get the book "Global Nomad" I can't think of the author off the top of my head but i'll look for it. The book helped us with every aspect of the trip. We took cash, travelers checks and used our credit and debit cards. It was a good mix. you can't really use your credit card in the third world but there are ATMs everywhere and you get a good rate with your debit card. Feel free to drop questions as they arise...we love to relive it! Good Luck

Thanks!! The Global Nomad: Backpacker Travel in Theory and Practice, is this the book? Or is it Global Nomad 101: Staying Safe & Sane on Travel Adventures by Frank H. Vial ?? I should probably read both! Again, thanks for the help. Question, what 'kind' of plane ticket did you guys get? One way, or were all the flights scheduled by specific dates - therefore allowing you only a certain time in one country? I'm also trying to find out how much of a budget I should be looking at since most of the countries I'll be visiting are 3rd world...I'm planning somewhat of an open trip, because I don't like deadlines when it comes to travel, I'm thinking anywhere between 6-8 months. Any ideas? Again thank you!! Anya :)

Hey Hey, why don't you send me your email and I'll give you all the details...I can even give you my budget sheet that I used to plan. I got the book name wrong...its "The Practical Nomad" by Edward Hasbrouk. I also enjoyed "Vagabonding" by Rolf Potts (its more inspirational than informative) and lastly the "Rough Guide First Time around the world" I LOVE the Rough Guide series. They are so much better than Lonely Planet. (We were forced to use Lonely Planet in Spain :( :) Talk to you soon Shannon

Greetings from a Russian New Yorker residing in Nashville, TN :) Wow!!!! Your trip sounds awsome!!!!!! I'm new to this site and so far have not stopped reading all the great stories. Question: How did you guys budget this sweet 6month escape? And is it better to bring cash or travelers checks or what? The longest I've been away is 45 days. But now, I am planning a trip much like the one you're on, and am curious as to what resources (if any) did you guys use to navigate? And if there are any books or other tips you can give me, it will be greatly appreciated :) Keep going and stay safe!! Anya :)
