We woke up at 8:00. Breakfast: vanilla yogurt, kiri, jam, butter, tea/coffee, orange juice, baked bread, and a fish-smelling crepe. The hotel land was very nice. The view of the High Atlas from the terrace was spectacular. We went for a walk in the palm groves again using the GPS. The day was possible the best day until now in terms of weather. The whole area is covered by small channels, olive trees, palm trees, cultivations, in such a quietness that you could hear the laughter of the girls washing clothes in the wadi or the shouts of boys teasing a donkey. On our way, we met a cart with a donkey and three boys on it. The driver didn't want a picture, but the other two did. At the end, Barbara took many pictures of them and we gave them one MAD each. Then, we drove to Ouarzazate.

On the left hand an artificial lake gave some very nice pictures. On the right hand, numerous wadis have created many dwarf canyons. Ouarzazate was nothing great. Then, we visited Ait-Benhaddou. We just took pictures from the main road. We bought 2 kgs of oranges and mandarines for 10 MAD. Delicious! Then, we began the climbing up to Tizi'n'Tichka.

The valley of Ouad Iminni is really spectacular. If you drive towards Marrakech, Tizi'n'Tichka is nothing special. If you drive towards Ouarzazate, then you appreciate it more. The downhill after the pass is really dramatic. Looking down may cause vertigo. We stopped just before Taddert for a snack. We bargained (he said 80, I said 40, we agreed 60) for two sandwiches with meat and a teapot of mint tea. Alternatively, we could buy the meat from the butcher and ask the man to grill it for us. That place was a mess. Many parked vehicles left small  passage for cars. Hence, when two buses met, a comfuzio took place. We proceeded towards Marrakech.

Because the hotel was on the other side of the city we decided to turn right outside Marrakech towards Marrakech Gueliz. Then left and we approached Marrakech from the North. What a wise decision! A mayhem was going on! Cars, bicycles, people, motorbikes, donkeys, horses, and all the noises you can imagine. We finally made it to the hotel and collapsed because of the exhaustion of the stress caused by this mess. We unpacked and left for a walk in Jemma el Fna.

What a square!!! Storytellers, musicians, actors, snake charmers, monkeys, food stores, orange juice shops, spices shops, restaurants, cafes, people, animals, all together but not the mayhem that we met, but in harmony. Like the whole world was inside this square. The colours, the smells, the sounds, everchanging and everlasting. More about the square and the people in the next entry!
