May 14 - 17
Well we left Edmonton at 7:55pm on May 14 and arrived in London at 11:30 am May 15. We went into London after finding our way through Heathrow. At first we tried to buy a ticket for the tube from the wrong dispenser. We found the correct ticket window and this girl gave Meghan her ticket so we only had to buy one which was great. London was kind of a blur because we were both functionning at about 3 am our time. We spent the first hour trying to find a bathroom, which they don't call a bathroom and they look very confused if you ask them to use their bathroom. Then we walked around Buckingham Palace and sat in St. James Park which was really nice. We were really tired so we headed back to the airport early. Meghan had a nap in the airport starbucks while I had the one and only $7.50 hot chocolate of my life.
Our plane to Dubai was delayed so we were unable to make our connection to Singapore so the airline put us up in a hotel for the day, we were there from 9 am until 3 am when our plane left. We took the double-decker bus tour around Dubai which was an incredible city. You couldn't drive anywhere without running into construction. Everything in the city is either brand new, very modern, or under construction. We were able to hop off the bus at the Mall of the Emirates and walk around a little and see Ski Dubai. Lucky for us we have real snow, because you can ski for a whole day at Sunshine for $10 more than it costs for 2 hrs at their indoor hill. It seemed in some parts that the culture hadn't caught up to how modern the rest of the city was. While walking through this brand new, marble floored malls, the employees at the pizza hut and burger king would be standing there shaking menus at you trying to get you to come there, almost like a market in the Dominican.
When we arrived at the airport in Dubai at midnight, we were caught totally off guard as the airport was a complete zoo. There was so many people there that it was hard to even walk around anywhere. At three am we finally took off for our final destination of Singapore. We arrived late in the afternoon of May 17th, that's right, 3 full nights of flying, and didn't want to do anything except sleep. My luggage somehow didn't make the flight to Singapore so I didn't have any clean clothes to change into which was fantastic. Luckily we had booked a private room for ourselves for the night and were in bed at 8:00 pm.
