Wished we had stayed here longer than a day, as Singapore is such a lovely place. The people were so friendly, from the taxi driver to the shop assistant. And the hotel was absolutely spot on. It had a massive internal space, you could see up to the roof at about 37 floors high. Matthew was very impressed with the glass lifts that were covered in lights. We took an external lift to our floor, so had great views of the city as we went up.
We went to sleep as soon as we arrived, luckily Matthew slept too. This was definitely needed, as I didnt get much sleep on the plane, maybe and hour tops.
At about 4pm we hit the shopping mall. There were loads of shops, it was like a maze. We didnt really need anything much, so ambled around, then decided to go see the electronics mall - Sim Lim Square. This is the biggest IT mall in Asia. It took us a while to find it, just getting directions was hard. We navigated the underground (MRT) in rush hour, which was no mean feat with a buggy and baby in carrier in tow! People were so nice though, you could never have done that in London, but we were offered seats and people waited for us to get off before they alighted, it was all very very polite. And Singapore is very clean, even the hand rails on the MRT looked polished!
Sim Lim Square was good to see, but we didnt want to buy anything as didnt fancy the idea of carting it around for 4 months. Pricing is also a bit dodgy as you have to ask the price for most things, and well, you get the impression they would charge more for a tourist (which we so obviously were).
The best part of the day for me was probably the walk back to Bugis Square from Sim Lim Square, where we walked through a market place. It was amazing, so many different types of food, and other items for sale. It was very narrow in places, had so much charm, it was like being on a movie set, exactly how you expect Asia to be.
We got home about 10.30pm, then was up again at 4am getting ready for the flight to Perth. Singapore airport was also an experience, Matthew loved the travelators, I spent quite some time with him on these! He also had started eating and we ended up having rice and noodles at 7am, which was actually quite a nice meal. Well, our body clocks were screwed so what the hell!
