We flew from Hong Kong into Singapore and took a taxi to a super cute hostel.
We slept on a really comfortable mat on the floor (the comfiest since San Fran), there were shared bathrooms that were spotless and two very pretty kitties that entertained us. Free tea and internet and we were happy as clams.
We walked across the street to a mall looking for a bookstore to pick up the next "Rough Guide" edition. To no avail, but we found a great Thai restaurant and had some delicious curry. We took the subway to another mall and found a huge bookstore just like barnes and nobles but better and got our "Rough Guide Malaysia". On our way back, I spotted a poster that said "Salvador Dali in Singapore" I am Dali's biggest fan. I ran over to read it when Carrie exclaimed, "I think its here, right now" Turns out this art gallery had numerous pieces of bronze sculptures by Dali showing. It was spectacular!
We made our way back to the hostel and passed out. The next morning, we got up and headed to the subway to cross over into Malaysia. This really took some patience.
We took two subways to a bus, the bus to the Singapore border - got stamped out, picked up another bus to the Malaysia border - got stamped in after some intense questioning of our intentions, money situation and itinerary. Carrie fielded those questions and when it was my turn she just looked at me and said, "Same as her?" I said yes and she stamped me right through ;) teehee.
Singapore was a beautiful city and we would highly recommend a visit. It is as expensive as Hong Kong but greener, calmer, and cleaner. It is truly an international city with people from all over converging there to live and work.
