Planning a Trip - Tips for Travelers with Special Needs
Travelers With Disabilities--Most disabilities shouldn't stop anyone from traveling. There are more options and resources out there than ever before.
There's a free guide called The Access Singapore Physically Disabled Person's Guide to Accessible Places, put together by the Singapore Council of Social Services, with charts to rate accessibility features of hotels, airports, places of interest, shops, and public buildings. It's published on the Net at www.dpa.org.sg/DPA/access/contents.htm.
Most hotels have accessible rooms, and some cab companies offer special van services. I've found most of the newer buildings are constructed with access ramps for wheelchairs, but older buildings are very problematic, especially the shophouses, with narrow sidewalks and many uneven steps.
