A small fishing village

Rod: Arriver à Shimoni, c'est un petit peu arriver au bout du monde !  Ici la piste s'arrête, et après la piste.... L'Océan Indien.  Cet endroit semble tranquille, il n'y a pas de touriste, je pense..... seulement nous, c'est cool.  On est allés louer un "Banda" (petite hutte) au Kenyan Wildlife Service Eden Campsite.  Ici, les Bandas sont situés dans une sorte de petite jungle ou les seuls habitants sont des Singes Bleus (comme on les appelle), il y en a plein!

En à peu près 15 minutes on a fait le tour du village: 2 rues et 3 mosquées!  Après 2 jours de repos,   rien  à faire d'autre que flaner et se reposer, on est allés à Kisite Marine Park pour faire de la plongée (masques tubas) pour explorer les fonds marins du park.  C'était vraiment bien, on a vu une petite raie, et 7-8 dauphins!  Et.... je suis allé nager avec les Dolphins, c'était excellent! ça fait un peu peur de nager au milieu de cette grande étendue d'eau, mais,... c'était cool!

Sophie: Oui, Shimoni était un petit havre de paix...on en avait trop besoin! C'était un peu comme vivre à la Robinson Crusoe dans la forêt (avec toilettes!), le cadre était magnifique, paisible et comme on était les seuls touristes, on a vite fait connaissance avec les villageois qui étaient chaleureux et souriants..C'était génial de regarder les singes, de les écouter et d'entendre soudainement comme une grosse averse sur notre toit qui n'était autre qu'un de leur pipi!

La sortie en mer pour la plongée (masque, palmes, tuba) était une première pour moi! Je me suis d'abord concentrée pour ne pas être malade en bateau (étant malade même en pédalo!), j'ai surmonté mon appréhension d'être lachée au large (encore traumatisée par "les dents de la mer", vous rigolez mais j'y ai pensé!) et puis..j'ai adoré nager avec les multiples poissons aux mille couleurs,on pourrait y rester des heures! grandiose et à renouveler dès que possible! Puis, quand on a soudainement apercu les dauphins qui nous suivaient, puis menaient notre bateau, et qu'on en a compte 6-7-8!!! La c'était la fête à bord!J'ai quand même essayé de filmer Rod avec les dauphins, ce qui m'a valu le mal de mer jusqu'au retour...qu'est ce qu'on ferait pas...

Rod: Arriving at Shimon was a bit like arriving at the end of the World. Here the track stops, and after... the Indian Ocean. The place looks very quiet and not many tourists seem to be here – looks pretty good! We got ourselves a Banda (small hut) at the Kenyan Wildlife Service.   It was very relaxing. We stayed in the middle of a “jungle" where the main inhabitants are blue monkeys. There are lots of them! The Bandas were very basic but there was we needed, i.e. 2no. mattress, light, a little fan and candles – luxury, no?! Very peaceful!

In about 15 minutes we had walked around the whole village: 2 streets and 3 mosques!.  After a couple of days relaxing doing............. .nothing, we went to the Kisite Marine Park for snorkeling and dolphins seeing. Today was excellent, I really enjoyed swimming in the clear waters of the Indian Ocean, we spotted a small plaice and 7-8 dolphins, which I went swimming with, and… it was brilliant!!

Sophie: Yes, Shimoni was a little haven...We needed it! It was a bit like living in the Robinson Crusoe style ( with toilet facilities!) in the tropical forest...The landscape was beautiful, peaceful and as we were the only tourists, the people from the village quickly got to know us and were smiley and friendly...It was brilliant to observe our only companions, the monkeys, listen to them playing and suddenly hearing like a shower on our roof...which was only them having a wee!

Taking the boat to go snorkelling was a first experience for me! I concentrated first not to get sea sick (i am even sick on pedalos on a lake, that' s how sad I am!), overcame my fear of being left in the middle of the sea (as I am still traumatised by "Jaws", not kidding, I did think of the film!) and finally thoroughly enjoyed swimming with these amasing  multi-coloured fishes...You could do that for hours and hours...Then when we realised that the dolphins were following us, we all got so excited!! Nearly 10 of them, absolutely beautiful! I did try to video Rudi  swimming with them, which cost me to be sea sick up to the shore...
