On the way to Shigatse we heard massive bangs, like overloud thunder so we drove around the mountains to find the Chinese army practising with their artillery in the Tibetan mountains.  We stayed and watched them fire their cannons a few times and then left after the rockets were fired in case they turned them around and blew up our landcruiser.

Once again the scenery was magnificentand we felt like we were the only ones alive there.  However, we found that was untrue because every time Emma or I would go to the toilet behind a tree or rock, some little Tibetans would run over.  Because of our many stops, we ended up getting to Shigatse at 6pm, where James realised he'd left his sleeping bag at the last place.

We met some English and Australians in the restaurant and had a few beers.  We thought about going to the temple to see the Panchen Lama but decided not to go in protest, as the Chinese government is holding the Tibetan one in prison (the Tibetans think he's dead) and have substituted their own Chinese version.

After a late brekky (once again the staff decided to sleep in) we head off for Shegar.
