We took a bus and cable car to the island of Sentosa. It’s a rather plastic sort of tourist resort but was great fun. We spent most of the day at Siloso Beach and swam in the sea. We happened to be on a chairlift when the heavens opened and it BUCKETED down. The weather is very changeable there and we had beautiful blue sky just one hour later. We saw the island’s huge Merlion statue and herb/spice garden and watched a musical water fountain show. In the evening, we went on the Night Safari in Singapore’s ‘open zoo’. There are hardly any fences and the animals have plenty of space to roam around. We loved the elephants and the fruit bats – one of the bats came right up to Dean and sniffed him!
