Fourth of July...in Spain...or any other part of the world besides the US...All of the American students are wearing red and blue today...no flag waving but a tribute nevertheless. Apparantly, all of the Americans that live here still go out and celebrate tonight so we are probably going to join the festivities...something tells me there won´t be apple pie...ugh.
We watch the news...broadcast. And as most of you know I hate broadcast news in english...in Spanish it´s quite literally like the world is ending. We watch it everyday during lunch and our house mother holds her head and talks and talks about "Buth" (Bush) and la guerra (war)...que horible. She asked us if we liked Buth and we both almost choked...how do you answer that? I mean I am always up for a debate but 1. Most of me agreed with her and 2. Even if I did like Buth what was I supposed to say? I laughed and said no me gusta Buth...but I didn´t want to discuss it. But she sure did. She went on and on about the guerra and her opinion and she was really upset. And in all honesty there are a lot of Americnas upset too...but it was strange to be sitting in another country talking politics...by talking I mean Megan ignoring the conversation and me nodding my head saying ¨Vale, vale¨ (ok, ok).
It´s funny because in the states I would be the first to strike up a conversation about politics...my opinion of Buth and the war but here I just couldn´t help but want to defend my country...I kept my mouth shut and didn´t want to be offended and I really wasn´t...but it still stuck with me that despite the stereotype and the perseption America is NOT Bush...And furthermore, all of Spain copies American clothes, most of the music we have heard has been American songs...American products...American commercials dubbed over! So let me get this straight...let´s talk trash about Americans but copy their every move?! Vale!
Anyway, it´s not worth being offended or offensive...it is what it is...America is the teenager of the world...
Oh and yesterday we had this bean soup that Megan and I could barely swallow. It was probably four or five cups of bean soup! That´s a lot!!! Lunch is hard to get through because it is so much food! Haha´. More later!
Much love!
God Bless America!
