As big cities go Seattle is one of the best I've seen and I don't like big cities. Everyone is very polite. The streets running east and west all end up at the water. Once there you have this long fish market with restaurants and other shops that is very popular to stroll.
I spent five days walking the streets getting a feel for the place.
I stayed a few blocks off the water front on an off street with no attractions. This saved me big time bucks over the high rise hotels with a view.
Seatlites see very sophisticated with their neat business attire, fast pace action, and of course daily trips to the ubiquitous Starbucks. I like Seattle's Best coffee better.
Even the street people were nice. One bummed a cig off me and said "please and thank you"!
The workers in the Pike Fish Market are a hoot. They are always joking with the shoppers. Free samples are all over.
Take a ferry ride out to and island for a day trip or over nighter. Nice ride and not expensive.
Go in the summer. The rest of the year sucks big time for weather. I've never been in a place (been to Seattle six times) were the sun doesn't shine and the cold rain comes down so much but the summer is bright and not hot.
On one of my trips there in the winter after a week my teeth were still chattering so I tried something I'd never done before, a tanning bed. I had them burn me! The heat generated in my skin by the burn finally got me warmed up.
