Camper vans are great but the opportunities for sleeping in late are non-existant! Theme of the day? Drive, drive, drive!! Between us we drove for 7 hours and covered some of the most boring stretches of road in the world - to the point that after 3 rounds of eye spy, we ran out of things to 'spy'! (Although mum (Sandra) you will be proud to hear that I spied a 'p' for pylon!)
The only saving grace of the journey was that we have appeared to join a special club! The camper van club! Membership basically involves being in a camper van and waving and flashing lights at any other campers on the road!....Oh the hours of endless fun!
Thankfully, we are able to pick up some pretty awesome radio stations here in Queensland. A particular favourite of ours is ABC fm. On this journey, we were lucky enough to tune in just in time for discussion hour, which included articles on the fascinating world of cake decorating and (as if we could take much more high octane fun), a debate on the safety of mobility scooters - as you can imagine, we were gripped!
We arrived at a free camp site just outside of Sarina (it was right on the beach and every park up looked out to sea) by dusk and proceeded to get stuck in a very tiny amount of sand which our van just couldn't deal with! Thanks to our heavy feet, we managed to dig ourselves in as much as was possible until we were well and truly stuck! Time to call on that old camper van club spirit! Our 'help' arrived in the form of 5 OAPs, all who thouht they knew the best way to get us out! Once they had bickered amongst themselves, the 3 men pushed, I manned the wheel (Jenn's foot is slightly more lead like!) and everyone else grabbed their cameras!! 5 mins later, we were free!! Cheers guys, you did a great job!
After a fleeting 'health conscious' moment, we jogged along the beach whilst the sun set. We were then regailed with tales of camping life from our new (elderly) friends and even the photo albums came out!

I'm glad you noticed my deliberate mistake! Jenn, so glad that those trips to Poole were educational after all!!
