In planning any new leg of our trip we usually refer to the travellers bible: Lonely Planet.  It was through this book (Southeast Asia on a Shoestring) that we discovered Flashbacks.  It had by far the best writeup of all the guesthouses we'd read about, plus it has it's own website, which is always a plus (http://www.flashbacks -chb.com/index.html).

We loved it from the first second.  We loved everything about it.  Especially the people.  Unfortunately, it has resulted in us comparing every other place we stay to it.

First of all, the rooms:  Very clean and neat.  Beyond that, they're serviced every day!  We stayed in one of the rooms which shared a bathroom with the adjoining room, but this didn't cause us any grief.  If we would have stayed in the bungalows, we would have had our very own bathroom.  Oh well.

Secondly, the breakfast:  A continental breakfast is included with the rooms and bungalows.  It consisted of fresh fruit, toast with jam/honey/vegemite (yuck), and coffee or tea.  We never felt that it wasn't enough.  The area that breakfast is served is very comfortable and welcoming, and there's always good conversation to be had around the table.

Thirdly, the grounds:  Beautiful with lots of little touches.  The pool (saltwater) was especially a treat, even moreso considering that it was literally about 5 steps from our room door.  On any given day we may have gone for a dip around 5 times, including just as we woke up to just as we were about to go to bed.

Fourthly, the location:  You're located right in the middle of Sanur.  Excellent restaurants are literally just a few doors away.  The beach is practically just across the street as well  You have to contend with all the hawkers on the street, but you'd have to do that anywhere.

Finally, the people:  We loved everyone, staff and guests alike.  The Aussie owners Peter and Jan are tremendous.  Peter is very laid back while Jan is self proclaimed reincarnated Janis Joplin.  One day a group of us were just lazing by the pool with Jan chatting on a  cordless phone.  The next thing we hear is Jan screaming cause a few fire ants started to crawl on her legs.  Two seconds later, Jan is in the pool fully dressed to get away from them.  All of the staff were great as well.  And they are the friendliest people too.  Nothing was too much to ask for, plus they would be so happy to hear you speak in Bahasa, the native language.

Overall, we can't say enough nice things about Flashbacks!
