I think had M & D known what kind of day was in store for them on this day…they would have lurked longer in Ronda!

Plans had been formulated to leave our hotel Husa Reina Victoria promptly at 7.45 so that we could get on our way to Malaga Airport to pick up daughter M and granddaughter M who were due to touch down courtesy of Thomson Fly from Cardiff and arrive @ 11am.

After our small breakfast of frankfurter and biscuit ( I am on holiday after all!) we set off. The hotel had been very accommodating of us and we were afforded a nice large room with a terrace. M had the eeby jeebys when she saw how high up we were and was a tad concerned that either I or Angus would stick our heads through the railings and meet an unfortunate end. Silly woman ..on times she does not give us credit for common sense , she says she has read too many stories of dogs having accidents.

So we were only allowed onto the balcony to take the view under supervision and…on the lead!

Still no matter they took us to a nature reserve where we had a nice long run and stretch of our short legs then it was off to Malaga Airport. we arrived in good time and found a car park with lots of shade for us all to sit in.

Then came the first text from daughter M to say “Plane has had to land in Bordeauxand that unfortunately was where the nightmare trip for them began. With little or no information available M & D eventually retired to M’s brother’s house down in Elviria near the coast, where I managed to meet up with my Springer spaniel cousins Freddie & Charlie. Angus as usual met them with his usual indifference and a firm ‘grrr’ in their direction . Not very hospitable but then Angus is a complex little beast full of insecurities about his status in the pecking order of life.

After lunch we were still awaiting news on the family stranded in Bordeaux…it did not appear to be good for them as time moved on. So M & D made a decision at 2pm to think about picking up the keys to our villa for the week based in San Pedro.

M made tried to make a phone call to the letting company and the number came up unobtainable…she tried another number she had and then another and all of them were unobtainable. D started having a major sense of humour failure and so Angus and I retired to under the nearest table and posed as sleeping dogs.

By some sheer luck M had brought all her email correspondence with her and ran through every number until she found one in Tangiers. I heard her speaking in another strange language I had heard earlier in France I think its called French to a lady on the phone. “Mon Dieu”

It was at this point we were somewhat concerned that things may not be going well. M & D were concerned that everyone else would be arriving on Saturday to join at the villa and there would literally be no room at the inn.

Anyway after a lot of frantic phone calls M eventually got hold of the man with the keys and we finally got access to our new home for the week. A lovely large and cool villa which would sleep 10 and 2 dogs and a swimming pool for us all and for the rest of the family now stationed in Costa del Sol. A great BBQ area…I adore BBQ’s because there is always so much meat around and I always get to hear “Don’t worry the dogs will eat that”

On the M& M front however, things were not so good and at 7pm that evening they were all told after spening a whole day being shut in a room ,they were going to have to stay overnight at a hotel in Bordeaux to try and fly again on Sunday morning.

That evening, we decided to have a BBQ in the garden and The Costa Del Sol contingency ~ N & J and the 3 ‘ gorgeous girl’s all came over. Sausages and steak abounded…doggy heaven!.

That night it was a bit strange but we soon settled down on the cool marble floored bedroom with air conditioning and we all had good nights sleep.
