From Cancun I was to fly to San Jose. However, not directly which would have been a true luxury, but via Miami way to the North! So instead of taking me a couple of hours to reach my final destination it actually took me most of the day. How I love airports :o)  Had slight excitement when I arrived at Cancun airport to discover that my flight had been brought forward an hour - oops. Hey ho, I made it onto my flight with plenty of time to spare :o)  Then it took me TWO HOURS to clear immigration at Miami which seemed highly unnecessary considering I was only transferring onto another plane. Eventually arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica, some eight hours later.

I checked into my hotel but didn't meet my roommate until gone midnight (I kept myself amused watching Rogue Trader on TV) since her flight had been delayed by four hours. It turned out that she was travelling with her friend, also called Sam, who she was really supposed to be sharing with. I should have been in a room with Susan - another of the lone female travellers in my GAP group. We all met at breakfast the next day, anyway, which was SUMPTUOUS. All you can eat mixture of breads, cakes, fruits, pancakes, omelettes etc. Yummy :o)

We met the rest of our group after brekkie - there were 13 of us in all (our guide, a trainee guide & 11 'holiday-makers). I didn't realise beforehand but GAP is a Canadian company, so not surprisingly there were 5 Canadians amongst us. The rest of us were from the UK & Japan. A really nice bunch of people so I have been lucky once again :o) After brekkie we left San Jose, headed for Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast.
