Our journey to Pompeii took us to Salerno, a city along the Amalfi coast. Although most travel guides seem to think that Salerno should be skipped, we decided to get off the train and have a boo.

The city is a bit rough, so in order to get our bearings we headed straight for the coast...the Amalfi Coast and it was just what we needed in order to start appreciating Salerno.  The bay was absolutely beautiful, but its a shame the marina was the only place that the view could be enjoyed from.  So once we'd finished with the view, we headed into town to see the only sight that is supposedly worth seeing - the Duomo.

This was the first of many Duomos we were going to see on our travels and it really was worth the stop...well, it combined with the views of the coast. I actually would have liked to spend a bit more time in Salerno, the small side streets in the Old Town would have been well worth some exploration, but unfortunately we were on a train schedule, so after our very short visit, we got back on the train and headed to Pompeii.
