We drove to Shigatse enroute to Sakya where we stopped to see the Tashilhunpo Monastery in the town, but we were all feeling a bit templed out and decided to do the pilgrims circuit around the monastery instead, as it gave great views over Shigatse and the mini Potala Palace copy nearby.

Our 'Guides' once again tried to get us to skip Sakya and carry straight onto Shegar, we stuck to our guns and arrived in Sakya mid afternoon. Sakya was the most interesting town so far, as it was very small and had quite a lot of small town things going on. The butchers was just a small corrugated roof stall at the town crossroads with carcases and various bits of meat hanging up, the streets were lined with sloping pool tables played by kids, and the the local cinema was a front room of a house with a loud distorted speaker hung outside.

We went to the 'under construction' monastery here as it was free to get in and met some local kids inside who were happy to hang out with us, pull faces and pose for the cameras.

That night we were treated to a buffet at our hotel and some traditional tibetan dancing/music, which involved the hotel staff dressing up and dancing out of time, the staff and the audience found it hilarious.
