The town of Rio Dulce just doesn't have much going for it - basically a one street town. I didn't find the locals to be very friendly either. Have heard from others who stayed at a place nearby called Finca Vispera (I think - it's in LP anyway) and it's highly recommended. Can't really remember the name of the place in El Remate - was on the main road. However a bit nearer to Tikal there is a road off to the left with some very nice looking places to stay.
