Yes, I really did it. The gliders and parasails launch from Pedra Bonita (Pretty Rock) about 1700 ft (520 m) up, and take 10-15 minutes sailing down to land on a beach.
The drive up to the top on winding 1-to-1.5-car-wide roads is exciting enough by itself. You wait your turn as others are launching, and you get geared up and instructed by the pilot. Then they strap you into a harness next to him, and you both run full tilt down a ramp and over the edge! Not a good moment to have second thoughts.
This is well west of the city, and so you don't see any of the usual sights. Loads of fun anyway.
The first few pictures are of various other fliers, then a few of the launch site, then several of me and the pilot in flight shot by a camera attached to the glider. I went with Hilton Fly Rio but I believe there are others as well.
