Rio de Janeiro has to be one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. It's set amongst limestone pinicles with beautiful beaches abound.
After waking Dave up in quite a shock to see me as he thought I was still in Sao Paulo I moved into his hostel. I hadn't had much choice the night before, when I arrived, as it was quite late.
After this we headed out for a bite to eat and ducked into a buffet cafe. These are very popular in Brazil. I had heard of them before coming and I was quite excited to dig in. The way it works is a bit different than a buffet in the states. Instead of paying one price for all you can eat, you fill your plate, and then they weigh it. You pay by the kilo! It was great. I think that the food here has got to be some of the best in the world.
Later on, we went down to Cocacabana Beach and walked the length of it, and back. Then, after a coca(coconut) drink, quite refreshed we headed back to hostel. Here we met up with a Brit that Dave had met the night before and headed for Sugarloaf mountain for the sunset.
There are two cable cars to take you to the top. So, we were very lucky that we made the first one just as we arrived. This gave us a chance to walk around on top of the first mountain top and take in the Christ Redeemer, before heading up to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain itself. We arrived at the top of Sugarloaf just in time for the sunset. Spectacular. A great view of Rio with it's beaches and mountains. What a Muy Bueno City!
