Upon check in we discovered that our reservation was made for 1 rather than 2. The manager was quite rude & said we'd stay in the single room but be charged for an additional breakfast. That wasn't a problem, but we were also charged an additional 100chf per day for extra towels & blankets though we received no extra towels & blankets-we had 1 twin comforter spread over a queen bed & 2 towels.
Our first night I was up all night due to snoring in the next room. It is shocking how thin the walls are in what purports to be a 5 star hotel. At 2:30 I called reception asking that we be given a new room in the a.m. After a sleepless night & re-packing all our things, we went to reception & asked that our things be moved to our new room & our car brought around while we ate breakfast. When we returned, not only had our car not been brought around but our room had not been moved. We had to wait until they sent us to what turned out to be a much smaller room. I requested a room comparable to that for which I had paid & they again were quite rude & told us we would have to wait 2 hours. Given the inconvenience, I would have thought they would have sent someone to immediately clean a room for us. Since we were only in St. Mortiz 2 nights, we weren't going to waste 2 more hrs of our time, so we asked that our bags be transferred while we were out.
We spent the day skiing, had dinner in St. Mortiz Dorf, intentionally staying away from the hotel as long as possible, & returned exhausted at 11:30pm. When we retrieved our new room keys, we were told that they hadn't moved our bags because we hadn't packed them!!! We had spent an hour that morning re-packing & had left our two cases by the door to be moved! So, exhausted, we had to wait to shower & sleep until they were able to locate our bags. The room was still smaller than what we had booked.
In the morning, we called to have our car brought around & our bags loaded. We had breakfast while we waited & discovered bugs in the fruit. Afterwards, we found that they misplaced our car keys, so we again had to wait while they located the keys & retrieved our luggage from storage. Thank goodness we didn't have to catch a flight or we would have missed it.
Through all of this, the staff never apologized for our inconvenience-not even when they lost our keys-they treated us as if we had inconvenienced them.
2 hours after leaving the hotel we had to stop in a village for an emergency restroom visit. Both my daughter & myself were suffering from food poisoning from the hotel breakfast.
Also, we spent 220chf on entree's w/o wine-it was adequate but over priced for even a fine hotel. Also, ski equipment can be rented across the road for 1/2 the price.
I've stayed at 5 star hotels around the globe, including Switzerland, & have never had such a miserable experience or been treated so badly. We seriously considered changing hotels & had our stay been longer we certainly would have done so.
