374042 4 Location 576173 <p>Mon Ami was a really good find. When we arrived the staff took my boyfriend aside while I checked us in, which I thought was odd. When shown to the room, though, I discovered that they had all been involved in a little Valentine's Day project: decorating the bed with a heart-shaped arrangement of carnations and arranging vases of flowers throughout the room. Nice staff.</p><p>The room, 1/2 of the lower level of a large hut, was spacious and comfortable and included a bathroom--not all rooms are thus equipped. There were lots of windows, but in the hot humidity of El Peten, they were of course not terribly helpful and we made use of a small fan in the room. The hotel provided ample purified bottled water.</p><p>The hotel grounds are lush--a tropical garden--and just across the road you have access to a large lake.<br /></p><p>Mon Ami is not on the main road in El Remate, so if you want to catch a shuttle or local bus, you may very well have to walk the 1/2 mile or so to the main road. Also, the heater for the shower may have been a bit on the dangerous side because my boyfriend got shocked slightly when he used the shower. (Electic shock while you are taking a shower: not ideal.) <br /></p><p>We didn't eat at the restaurant and can't speak for the food, but the restaurant ambiance was very nice. The space was open air (under a huge thatched roof) and seemed like a very relaxed place to hang out and chat.
