An adobe chapel built in 1800's, the Santuario de Chimayo is a very sacred place, visited by over a quarter million persons annually.  The "big" event is a pilgrimage made on Good Friday each year, some pilgrims walking a hsort distance, others  walking from Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

The day I visited, there were not many visitors, and I was able to walk around the grounds and the chapel without interruption.  A gift shop on the grounds sells items to support the maintenance of the old building.
