Okay, so although the Ring of Kerry is a beautiful place, this hostel is not. I was so happy to have only stayed 2 nights. The location of the hostel is about 1 hour walk from town, an 11€ taxi ride, or a free shuttle ride (only every 3 hours). It is located amongst the setting of a cleared area with trees all around. The 18C mansion is beginning to show its age with many cracks and holes in the walls. I was at first very excited to stay here because it would be peaceful and relaxing. It was relaxing and peaceful, as there was nothing to do. This hostel caters to groups, families and older people. Which is nice, as you don't have a group of loud and annoying people. So I will break it down for easier reading.

Service/Staff/Amenities:
I was checked in by an individual who was just learning the process, which I don't have a problem with, but she wasn't able to provide me with a lot of information, and constantly had to ask others for help. This was my first experience with the hostel, and it wasn't going to get any better. It took me forever to get to sleep because it was freezing in our room, I couldn't figure out how to turn the heat on and the beds where so old and squeeky that every time I turned it would either make a noise or a spring would jab into my side and/or back. The first night, the fire alarm went off, apparently someone had pulled it (by accident or intentional who knowsthe real story!?), so at 4 am we had to gather outside the hostel under the cover of the front entrance, as it was raining. It took about 15 or so minutes before we were allowed back in. So to be honest, and maybe I am expecting too much, but I would have appreciated a sorry regarding this night time incident, but nope they were not going to have that. So the day was off to a great start and it was only going to get better. I went to pay for my breakfast, there isn't even a continental breakfast included, it cost 5€ and what it says on the website is I am suppose to get fruit, yoghart, cereal, coffee/tea. Yep, got only cereal and a shot glass of orange juice, plus toast. I couldn't believe that I paid 5€ for that! There wasn't even an option for any other type of breakfast, as again it is stated on their website. So I packed myself full of muslix (the other option was corn flakes) and went to go read before I went on my tour. Well, I didn't get much reading done because of an argument between a patron and the manager. Apparently the individuals who were accused of pulling the fire alarm were asked to leave. One individual did not like being asked to leave, especially as he states "For something he didn't do." So then the fighting began, the manager and this particular individual got into a heated debate, neither backing down, right in the front lobby. I found this to be very distasteful on part of the manager, as anyone who wanted to leave had to walk right through this mess. I would have thought, the individual who hadn't been drinking the night before (the manager) would have had more class, and taken it to another room, outside, somewhere where it wasn't been seen by all patrons of the hostel. As per the amenities. I don't know how they can call themselves a 4 star hostel (again on their website). Out of the 3 showers for the rooms 2 rooms (about 18 females), only 2 worked. And one, the door didn't have a lock, so you had to keep it closed with your towel. The other shower had a curtain and locking door (I should have chosen that one!). In addition to the 2 showers there were 2 toilets, of which were so small that you had to manuever yourself between the toilet and door in order to open it. But the great part about the toilets, is that when the rolls are finished, they don't put another one in. There was one roll for 2 toilets, so you had to make sure it was in your stall before you sat down. Both stalls did not have proper toilet paper in each for over a period of 24 hours. So there you go that is my review, and I hope somebody else has a much better experience than I did. I will say that my hostel in Dublin is looking like the Ritz compared to this one.
