Left to travel to Crater of Diamonds State Park at 2 am in order to try to get there in time to rent a campsite for the week. The travel down I-75 and the consecutive highways was uneventful with a few neat views along the way. Felt like I was lost using MapQuests directions once we were near the state park do to poorly marked roads. Ended up getting to the state park 15 minutes after they closed, but was told by one of the park rangers to just take a campsite that was available and come to pay for it in the morning.

Setup the campsite and took a look around for the first night as the Crater of Diamonds site was closed. Disappointed that their was only one hiking trail that was in the state park for free. It was a nice trail (Little Missouri River Trail) though it wasn't very long at about 2 miles. There was another trail inside the diamond mine, but you had to pay the fee ($6.00) to have access to it. It wasn't as nice as the Little Missouri River Trail, but did see a water moccosin which was neat.

The actual diamond mine was uneventful, and after three days of looking for diamonds we were bored, and decided to leave the State Park having done all the hiking trail. I would like to note that the park staff were supposed to plow the 33 acre field to aid in diamond discovery, but were holding off because The Discovery Channel was coming to film the week after we came. There was also no real shopping stores in the town nor were there any good resturaunts I would concider eating at. Furthermore, it is a dry county from my understanding and if you wanted alcohol you would have to travel all the way to Hot Springs, AK. Overall, it was an okay experience though I would have preferred more hiking trails and other attractions for a state park.
