The White Farm is a lovely b&b in Brockport, NY and a place I'll return to again and again. I occasionally have business travel that takes me to Brockport and only stumbled on it when the hotel I usually stay at was booked.

The White Farm is in a convenient location, close to the university and town. It is a restored farm house originally built in 1820. The proprietor, Christine Hunt, has put many hours into bringing the house back to its original state, and the results are remarkable.

One highlight is the dining room, which has restored murals and stenciling. The murals were originally painted by artist and taxidermist David Bruce in the late 1800s. The Victorian decorative paintings include stencils of flowers, foliage, and birds, as well as freehand panoramas of buffalo roaming the plains and other nature scenes. It is difficult to imagine the time and effort involved in stripping years worth of conventional interior paint to reveal the murals underneath, but the final effect is amazing.

The farm has four guest bedrooms, each with a private bath. Business amenities like an iron and hair dryer are available. The accommodations are comfortable, and the inn keepers are hospitable and welcoming.

I was there during the winder, but the gardens sound delightful.

Don't be fooled by the modest price or the no frills web site -- this is a comfortable and elegant place to stay.
