297667 5 Location 548950 When you are driving through the middle of Nowhere with 2 pets and no reservations, and it's starting to get dark and rainy, you begin to lower your expectations and look for any port in a storm.  So what a surprise to see this big sign at the edge of Muleshoe, Texas - "Free Internet."  I stopped and asked about pets: yes, $5 surcharge.  So I booked a room on the spot, and was pleasantly surprised: a clean room, with two double beds, a round table with two chairs, a small desk with chair, wired (not wifi) internet, fridge, microwave, cable TV, full bath.  And, important out here in the 90-plus-degree heat, air conditioning that works.   All that for $79 including both the tax and that pet surcharge.  To top it off, the receptionist warned me to hurry and get settled, because the restaurant next door (The Dinner Bell, not connected to this motel) would close in 20 minutes. Otherwise, I would have missed dinner.
