OK, it's a little touristy, but we were absolutely delighted with La
Choza de Oscar. The 15 soles (5 USD) menu del dia included soup and
salad, with gourmet presentation, a main plate, desert and coffee. The
food was very good, but what really pushed Oscar's over the top was the
service.

For five bucks, you don't expect elegance, but that's what you get
here. We had perhaps the best waiter I had EVER had, a young man named
Felix, who even served us water from a large bottle as if it were wine.
I never saw him without a cloth properly dropped over his forearm.
Apparently this great service isn't uncommon. I was googling the place
to double-check the name, and in the first page I saw, another blogger
talked about having the best waiter of her life there, named Raul.

We liked it so much that we came back for dinner the same night. We
were treated to a little show, where an Andean band played (this
happens in most restaurants in Peru) with dancers (that was a first).
It was one of the best bands we saw in Peru, and they played pan flutes
that were more than five feet long.

The inside of the restaurant was very nice as well. A large fugon,

an Andean stove kept us warm, and it was generally tastefully
decorated. I would go for the palta salad (palta is avocado in Peru,
aguacate isn't used), and the alpaca steak was very good. If you're in
the mood for something a little less Peruvian, try the brick-oven pizza
joint next door and get the house special.
