The British Museum is simply amazing!!!  The current exhibitions contain many Greek, Roman and Egyptian artifacts, ranging from over three thousand years ago until the early ADs.  The museum has an excellent collection of ancient Egyptian coffins beautifully painted and Greek and Roman statuettes from around 500BC, tools and implements from pre-history (some were listed as 400,000 years old!), Indian temple carvings from 1000AD, Buddhist art from Tibet and Thailand, coins from the old world, the list goes on and on.  Of course, pride of place goes to the Elgin marbles, which the museum calls "the Parthenon Sculptures".  A large room is filled with these marble carvings, some exquisitely detailed, others rather damaged.  You would need at least 6 hours to do this museum justice.
