New York is a big city and you have to be careful in all big cities, but do it right and you'll enjoy the experience. Study street maps and the subway maps ahead of time and know where you want to go and figure out what trains will take you there. NYC and Company Foundation runs the site and they have the best map of the system available. It became our bible. It will take a couple of days to get comfortable with the system, and to figure out how to use it, but it's an interesting challenge and it's worth it. It's part of the New York experience.
